oPEN CALL

Now accepting submissions

Deadline EXTENDED : 30th May

About

About:

The aim of this Open Call is to encourage contributors from multi-disciplinary practices to develop ideas and form dialogues in response to Sabrina Mumtaz’s Parasitical reserach. The ambition is to put into discussion the positive parasite-host relationship, as a means of exercising new methods aimed at finding social change by editing the current pejorative perspective of human bodies behaving parasitic towards each other and new hosting environments. This project, aspires to further develop the ethnographic context of this theme - expanding it in an interpersonal work-led narrative as a means of interrogating its existence, usage and value.

The Open Call aims to create a multi-disciplinary group collective, hence it's open to all forms materials: from any scientific/academic research, literature, text, equations, and works of art.

This project will take the form of an exhibition by occupying a museological space in London between the 9th and 20th of July 2018. The exhibited work will thus have the privilege of constituting the first series of this annual project and creating the standards for  the future applicants. Furthermore, the successful participant’s work will be recorded in the project’s online platform with the opportunity of this to be transferred into the first physical issue of the ‘LEECH Journal' magazine.

Eligibility

1. Towards anyone from all fields of study.

There are no boundaries on the approach, form or materiality of the submitted work. This can take any artistic form, scientific/academic research, literature, text, equations, and so on, with no restrictions upon age, profession curriculum and geographical location (we encourage anyone from overseas to apply).

2. A visible engagement towards the topic has to be present.

Only works that promote a link towards the topic's discourse will be considered.

Terms & Conditions

1. As a non-profit event, the administration doesn't take any responsibility regarding transportation costs or any damage to the works that might be incurred before or after the exhibition. The transport management of the works falls sorely upon the participant's responsibility. The works have to be delivered on time on the 9th of July and removed on the 21st of the same month on a venue still to be decided in London (UK). If any changes to the event occur, it is the administration's responsibility to inform the chosen participants.

2. Applicants are responsible for insuring their own work. All works accepted for this project are entirely at the artists’ risk and the administration will not accept or be under any liability for loss or damage, etc., although every care will be taken of work submitted.

3. The administration team is open to work with artists to organize external materials such as DVD players, plinths and TVs  according to their works requirements. However no guarantees are made that this will be available, so is advisable that the participants bring their own.

4. The deadline for the open call will be on the 16th of May 2018.
